Why does my Chevy 2.2L Ecotec not start?
So, I recently put a new timing chain into my 2004 Chevy Malibu Classic, 2.2L Ecotec. I put it all back together, and now it will not Start… I believe that I’ve ruled out the basics (Spark and Fuel).. I tested the Ignition spark and found it to be weak, so I put in a new Ignition Module and plugs to be safe.
Why does my Ecotec terrain engine not start?
The engine just cranked quickly like normal for about 10sec but it wouldn’t start. It sounded like there was no fuel or no spark. I repeated this many times and eventually I had to have it towed to my shop. It was late last night so they just checked it this morning.
Where is the timing mark on a Chevy 2.2L?
I’m pretty sure that I set the timing correctly. (With the crank shaft key at the 1 O’clock position and the timing mark on the sprocket at the 5 O’clock. The exhaust cam at 10 O’clock and Intake Cam at 2 O’clock.

The sprockets should only go on one way. The new chains have coloured links that are placed at the marker on the sprockets of the cam shafts and the crankshaft. Once you removed the original chain and sprockets, nothing should be moved until the new chain and sprockets are installed.

If the chain broke while running, it is likely that the pistons struck the valves. Perhaps you should check for compression in all the cylinders. It is very important that you installed this new chain correctly and properly timed.
