The 427 will give a lot more hp. you will climb the hill two gears higher than a 366. I’m thinking you can still get a new GM engine and they not as pricey as you might think. How to build a tall deck 427 based big block?
4.25 stroke + 6.385 rods + off-the-shelf 454 normal-pin-height pistons + steel shim head gasket. Deck the block .020 to .030 to bring the piston closer to the top. You can use a composition head gasket; but you need to take more off the deck. If you can find a set of 6.405 rods; they were built to do this.

Alright guys so a few weeks ago I traded some time to a guy to a tall deck 427 engine. I plan to put it in my truck mainly as a pull truck but I drive it on the road on occasion.
