How do I know if my teats are damaged?
Signs a nipple should be tossed
- Breast milk or formula pours out in a stream.
- Discoloration — this could be a sign that the nipple is deteriorating.
- Thinning — this an early sign that the nipple is weakening.
- Stickiness or swelling — this could be a sign that the nipple is deteriorating.
How do you treat teats?
Clean the teat with a mild soap and water solution before milking. Post-milking, apply an ointment or salve with antiseptic properties that does not inhibit healing and has good barrier properties. Suggestion: Omit post-dipping if you are confident that the topical product you are using is indeed germicidal.
