What happens if a brother and sister sugar gliders mate?
YES, a brother and sister sugar glider will mate and have babies. Any female sugar glider over 7-10 months OOP can be bred (and sometimes even earlier). While accidental brother/sister breeding should be prevented, many breeders use this kind of close inbreeding to improve their animals.
Do female sugar gliders fight each other?
They tend not to fight, but still may develop territorial issues later in life. Neutralize everything!! This includes the cage that gliders will go into, toys, pouches, and the introduction space! But once they get places into the cage together, you don’t want the scent of another glider on anything!
Can female sugar gliders be kept together?
You can keep multiple female Gliders or multiple male Gliders together in the same cage, but it is not suggested to keep multiple males with only one female. The ratio of females should always be equal to or higher than the ratio of males in the cage.
Is it normal for sugar gliders to eat their babies?
Sugar Gliders will kill and eat their babies if they become too stressed out so moving them or changing their environment is not recommended at this time. Sugar Gliders reach sexual maturity at about 6 months of age, so proper care should be taken to remove any babies before inbreeding or male fighting occurs.
How many sugar gliders can live together?
They are social animals who usually live in groups of 6-10. They should not be kept as single pets. Sugar gliders have unique nutritional requirements which must be properly met to maintain good health (see our handout “Sugar gliders – feeding”).
Do sugar gliders like to cuddle with humans?
Many people find pet sugar gliders to be endearing and entertaining. They are quick, love to climb, and will glide from place to place if their space allows it. Plus, as nocturnal animals (meaning they’re most active at night), they like to cuddle up in a nest during the day to sleep.
