Do goats like to travel?
Our goats love riding in cars. As soon as they see the door open, they come bounding out of their pen and leap up into the backseat. As far as passengers go, the goats were quieter than dogs and required far fewer stops than the humans driving them.
Will goats wander off?
Good news-goats don’t really run away. They run to something, like food or companionship. While it’s true if they are “running away” they are out of the pen. This is annoying for sure, but for the most part goats will end their “running away” spree by camping out on your porch.

A healthy and fit pack goat can carry up to 25 percent of its weight and walk up to about 12 miles per day depending on its load weight, the terrain, and the animal’s conditioning.

A gathering of goats is officially called a ‘trip. ‘ Make way, make way for the trip of goats doing their best John Travolta strut. In the old Norwegian folk tale Three Billy Goats Gruff, we see the word ‘trip’ multiply associated with goats.
How do you travel with a goat?
A few options for transporting goats:
- The bed of a pick up truck. This works well if you have a topper and the back door secures tightly.
- Dog Crates/Kennels are wonderful for transporting goats.
- The back of a Mini Van or SUV works very well for hauling goats.
- Trailers are great for hauling lots of adult animals.
Do goats get car sick?
THey make some but they are by prescription only. He will probably get better after awhile and some road time. You can also, if hauling him very far, stop and just let him rest every hour or so for 10 minutes. Slows things down but helps him acclimate.
Do goats need to be fenced in?
Goats will go over, under or through a fence before you’ve taken three steps away from their yard if it hasn’t been built correctly. Four-feet-high minimum. Page wire fencing with 12-inch openings is acceptable if you will never need to contain kids; otherwise invest in a 6-inch page wire.
What can you do for a car sick dog?
Two over-the-counter options that may be used for motion sickness in dogs are Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Dramamine (dimenhydrinate). Both products are antihistamines that can be given every 8 hours and may have sedative effects. Dramamine may be better tolerated given with a small amount of food.
