- Study the species you are least familiar with, more. I love horses.
- Make a note of the material you get stuck on.
- Don’t rely just on your Vet Prep/Zuku Review/Etc.

NAVLE results are reported to state and provincial boards responsible for the licensing of veterinarians. Your pass/fail test result is based on a minimum passing score of 425 recommended by the International Council for Veterinary Assessment (ICVA) to pass the NAVLE.

How much does the NAVLE cost? The NAVLE fee for the upcoming 2021-2022 testing cycle is $705, in U.S. funds. There is an additional $340 fee for overseas testing.

When should I start studying for Navle?
Some people prefer to cram, and so take the week off before the exam to study. Some people prefer to start studying 4-6 months prior to the exam and study a small amount every day. Other people prefer to learn on clinics and start studying 4 weeks before the exam.
Can you do any type of veterinary related work without taking the Navle?
You can work for USDA as a veterinary medical officer. FSIS and APHIS I know for sure will allow it, with FSIS being more willing to hire someone without a license / not having passed the NAVLE. They both prefer their vets to be licensed if they are working directly with animals, but it’s not a requirement.
Does Navle expire?
The NAVLE is a computer-based test, comprised of 360 multiple choice questions. You will have a total of 7.5 hours at the test center; 15 minute orientation and tutorial, 6.5 hours of testing time divided into 6 blocks of 65 minutes each, and 45 minutes of break time. Certification remains valid indefinitely.
Can you retake the Navle?
Candidates who successfully complete the NAVLE are not permitted to retake the examination except to comply with certain requirements as approved by the ICVA. Some boards have adopted the policy; others have their own NAVLE retake policy.
