What does Heska Allercept test for?
Heska’s unique, patented ALLERCEPT® program technology can detect as little as 10 picograms (trillionths of a gram) of allergen-specific IgE and can be used alone or in conjunction with conventional intradermal skin testing to accurately identify the source or sources of an allergic reaction.
What is dog immunotherapy?
Immunotherapy is a treatment that uses certain parts of a pet’s immune system to fight various types of diseases, including cancer. The main types of immunotherapy that are available to treat cancer in dogs (and in some cases, cats and horses too) include monoclonal antibodies and cancer vaccines.
What is Allercept?
A series of specially-formulated treatment extracts in gradually increasing strengths, ALLERCEPT Therapy Drops are a palatable solution delivered in tiny amounts (2 pumps twice per day) under the pet’s tongue and can be used in dogs that have had prior anaphylactic reaction to allergy shots.
How do you get an allergy test done?
Skin testing is usually done at a doctor’s office. A nurse generally administers the test, and a doctor interprets the results. Typically, this test takes about 20 to 40 minutes. Some tests detect immediate allergic reactions, which develop within minutes of exposure to an allergen.
How do you administer Heska drops?
Dispensing the Drops Rest the dispensing arm of the pump on the lower teeth, anywhere near the front or side of the mouth, with the tip of the arm over the edge of the teeth (Figure 1). To administer, fully depress the pump firmly and quickly so that the dose is released into the mouth, preferably under the tongue.
Do allergy drops work for dogs?
Approximately 50% of dogs that showed no improvement or could not tolerate allergy shots, showed improvement when treated with allergy drops. ALLERCEPT Therapy Drops can even be used safely in dogs that have experienced a prior anaphylactic reaction to allergy shots.
Are allergy Drops effective?
Allergy drops can be very effective for treating allergic rhinitis due to ragweed, some grasses, and dust mites. They are as effective as allergy shots and are associated with fewer side effects. Currently there are only four types FDA-approved allergy drops, although other types are used as off-label drugs.
Does insurance cover allergy drops?
Most insurance plans do not cover sublingual immunotherapy. It is considered an FDA “off-label” use. It is important to note that when compared with the cost of allergy shots, sublingual immunotherapy may be a more economical choice.
How long does dog immunotherapy last?
Immunotherapy must be continued for at least one year before effectiveness can be determined.
