Do colleges check your essays for plagiarism?
According to the Los Angeles Times, over one hundred colleges and universities in the US use programs like Turnitin to review admissions essay statements for plagiarism. If plagiarism is detected, it’s down to the college to decide if it’s serious enough to reject the applicant.
How can issues related to plagiarism be avoided?
Tips for avoiding plagiarismDon’t just copy. In your writing, describe other people’s ideas or results (using references) and their importance to your argument, rather than simply copying what you’ve read. Use a range of sources. Develop your own style. Keep good quality notes. Use quotation marks.
Does TurnItIn remember past essays?
TurnItIn has a policy to keep the paper in its archives. So, your paper is most likely to be still available in their archives. I don’t think a paper can be rewritten because the same topic (inasmuch as research is concerned) is less likely to be given to the same student.
