Can cats take Torbutrol?
The usual oral dose of Torbutrol is 0.25 mg of butorphanol base activity per lb. of body weight. This medication is easily tolerated by cats; for post-operative care in cats, it is frequently used in combination with ketamine.
What schedule drug is Torbutrol?
Butorphanol (brand names: Stadol®, Torbutrol®, Torbugesic®, Dolorex®) is a systemic partial opiate agonist/antagonist used as an analgesic (pain control medication), pre-anesthetic, antitussive (cough suppressant), or antiemetic (prevents vomiting). It is a schedule IV-controlled substance.
How long does a Torbutrol injection last?
It should be administered by subcutaneous injection, and repeated at intervals of 6 to 12 hours as required. If necessary, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 0.05 mg/lb or 1 mL/10 lbs body weight. Treatment should not normally be required for longer than seven days.
How long do cat Torbs last?
The duration of activity in cats responding to butorphanol ranged from 15 minutes to 8 hours. However, in 70% of responding cats the duration of activity was 3 to 6 hours following subcutaneous administration.
Who should not take butorphanol?
Butorphanol tartrate nasal spray should not be used by patients less than 18 years old. Butorphanol has been found in the breast milk of women who are using butorphanol tartrate nasal spray. Therefore, butorphanol tartrate nasal spray should not be used by patients who are breastfeeding.
Is butorphanol stronger than morphine?
Butorphanol is to 3 times more potent than morphine and has a shorter duration of action (0.5 to 3 hours), with minimal sedation (see Table 26-1). Cardiovascular and respiratory side effects are minimal compared with mu receptor agonists, and butorphanol produces antitussive and antiemetic effects.
Can you give Antisedan to cats?
