What happens if ducklings get too hot?
Ducklings and Goslings do not take heat well, so be sure not to overheat them. They like a temperature of 90-92 degrees for the first 3 days, then 85-90 degrees for days 4 to 7. They must always be able to get away from the heat. Panting and drooping wings are a sign that they are too hot.

Fish yawn or open and close mouths for a variety of reasons the most common are lack of oxygen (you can raise your filter so that there is more splashing or add a bubbler), ammonia in the water (ammonia binds oxygen), too high a temperature (hot water holds less oxygen) Yawning can also be a sign of internal parasites, or gill flukes.

Is it normal for a duck to breathe through its mouth?
As long as they have food, clean water, and the ability to move closer or further from the heat lamp, there isn’t really much else for you to do. My ducks breathe through their mouth from time to time and there is nothing wrong with them. They did it while they were ducklings too.
Why do birds open and close their beaks?
They would pant, their beaks were constantly opening and closing, and there was clicking sound. I don’t think the clicking came from the beak rubbing together, it sounded more like it was coming from the throat. It was worse when the birds were hot or stressed, or if they have tried to fly or do a lot if they were unfit.
