When did basset hound rescue of Georgia start?
Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer effort to save abandoned and mistreated basset hounds for the love of the breed. Our rescue effort began in 1991, and we have rescued over 3,000 bassets since then. Initially, only two volunteers privately funded Basset Hound Rescue.

Our volunteers have driven thousands of miles and in some cases have flown to rescue a Basset that may have been abused, is ill , lost a home due to a death in the family or in some cases the owners could no longer afford to provide properly for their Basset.

The first one that the American Kennel Club recognized as a European basset hound named Bouncer in 1885. The club finally honored the breed in 1916. The transition from the European basset to the American one was also unknown. There is minimal research available as to how the European basset hound became an American breed.
