What do you do with a rescue kitten?
The first thing you’ll need to do is capture the stray kitten. For some kittens, this is as easy as reaching out and scooping them up. For others, you may need to contact a local animal society or shelter to obtain the humane traps often used in TNR. Simply place the trap out with some food inside, and wait nearby.
Why did I take my kitten back to the shelter?
I felt terrible about even thinking about taking him back to the shelter since I had made a commitment to him. I had seen it many times before — someone gets a dog or cat and for one reason or the other, takes the animal back to the shelter, or even worse, to a kill-shelter.

He is most likely used to the closed environment of a shelter cage, so it would be best to keep him confined in a small safe room for the first few days, especially if there are other cats in the house.

The adorable five-month-old orange tabby was awaiting eye surgery. He was born with a non-functioning eye, and it would have to be removed. He had the sweetest face and I couldn’t wait to bring him home. Like many animals in a new home, he was shy and scared during his first few hours.
